Jakarta — Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) is organizing the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of Palm Oil Producing Countries (MMPOPC) to be held on 17-18 November 2019 at Pullman Hotel, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The objective of the meeting is to facilitate an exchange of views between palm oil producing countries on the area of common interest such as sustainable palm oil, industrial cooperation, and smallholder development. The CPOPC wishes to explore those areas to work together, to share common experiences to address problems as well as identify and optimize opportunities.

The Honorable Minister of Primary Industries Malaysia Madam Teresa Kok shall deliver opening remarks and officiate the meeting. Several major palm oil producing countries from Africa, Central and Latin America, and Asia Pacific shall attend the meeting.

The 2nd MMPOPC will present a panel of experts highlighting innovative developments within the palm oil industry, and show-casing progresses made in line with the globally emerging needs for sustainability criteria, certification schemes, environmental protection, market access and international trade policies.

In that regards, the 2nd MMPOPC will strive to establish closer cooperation and collaboration with “friends of palm oil” by inviting them to address the meeting. The selected speakers are the following:

  • Pietro Paganini from John Cabot University has been very vocal and active in voicing an objective and healthy debate on palm oil. It is about time to develop Understanding, Dismantling and Addressing Negative Perception on Palm Oil.
  • Tan Sri Datuk Dr Yusof Basiron is the Executive Director of CPOPC. He will present Global Partnership on Palm Oil Opportunities and Future Sustainable Developments of Palm Oil Producing Countries.
  • Dr James Fry of LMC International has comprehensive knowledge about the global oils and fats market. The meeting will be briefed on global supply, demand and price outlook of palm oil and other vegetable oils towards a global partnership to sustain the palm oil price.

The meeting will coincide with the MPOB International Palm Oil Congress and Exhibition (PIPOC 2019) from 19-21 November 2019. The programme during PIPOC 2019 will provide the meeting delegates with added opportunities to build a network with other palm oil stakeholders, which include business players, government officials, educationists, researchers, civil society organisations, and smallholders that will be attending PIPOC 2019.
